This Mill contains a unique ceramic mechanism that allows you to grind almost anything, including salt, pepper, herbs and spices. The mechanism is fully adjustable from fine to chunky. The ceramic parts will never corrode and are guaranteed for 25 years.

The Mill No.3 fits neatly in your hand making it very easy to use and its subtle design blends well with both modern and classic interiors. Can be paired with the Mill Tray to give your mills a neat home on the kitchen bench or table.

The Ceramic Mechanism

At the heart of our mills is a ceramic milling mechanism which utilises a 20mm funnelling cone to feed material into a fine crushing area. Ceramic is a high performance material rating extremely high on the hardness scale, resulting in a mechanism which will never lose its edge. In addition, ceramic cannot corrode making it perfect for use with salt, or any other reactive ingredients.

Available Timbers

  • Beech

    Beech

American Beechwood is one of the most dense and shock-resistant hardwoods available. It is characterized by its pale cream sapwood and warm, reddish-brown heartwood, often featuring a fine, uniform grain with tiny, distinctive silvery fleck patterns.

Known for its exceptional "wear-ability," Beech stays smooth even after years of heavy friction and use. We value it for its clean, minimalist aesthetic and its ability to withstand the rigors of a busy kitchen without splintering or wearing down. Sourced exclusively from FSC certified forests, our Beechwood represents a commitment to long-term forest health, ensuring this plentiful and sturdy resource is managed with the highest environmental integrity.
  • Walnut Stained Beech

    Walnut Stained Beech

To ensure a perfect tonal match across our collections, our darker pieces are crafted from the same high-density American Beechwood as our lighter models. By using a deep, walnut-toned stain rather than a different timber species, we are able to achieve superior consistency in grain pattern across your entire set of mills and tools.

This approach is a core part of our commitment to sustainability; by utilising the same FSC certified beechwood for multiple finishes, we significantly reduce timber wastage during production. The result is a sophisticated, dark appearance that retains all the shock-resistant and hard-wearing qualities of natural Beech, while providing a seamless aesthetic for your kitchen.

Salt-N-Pepa

"I've been using these every day for 2 or 3 years now. Still going strong. Excellent design and build quality."

Better than my battery powered mill

"I have been using battery powered mills for years and even the best brand has failed after a few years. I happened upon the sands made mills in a beautiful shop in a small Tassie backwater and thought I’d try them. There is something to be said about the simplicity of great design. They work perfectly, are easy to fill and don’t need batteries. My daughter is now eying these off in my kitchen."

Salt & Pepper Mills

"I bought both the Beech and Walnut Stained Beech mills to hold salt and pepper. I've been using them for about a year now and I love them! Easy to use, holds a good amount, and look beautiful."

Completing My Set

"I purchased the DarK Walnut Mill No. 3 about a year ago and have loved the simple, efficient way it dispensed pepper. I have now purchased the same mill in beech for the salt. The mechanism is reliable and the mill a joy to hold - beautifully tactile. Robbie kindly found the ideal base which combined the two wood colours and now the set sits perfectly on its tray. This is an excellent product that I recommend highly."

Well made, happy with the

"Well made, happy with the components and quality. However it is a fraction small. If it was a tiny bit bigger or could hold a larger volume of peppercorns it would be ideal."
